Once we survived our first trip, we started discussing where we head off to next. Thankfully, the next few trips were more organized and set up was better executed. In August 2017, we stayed at Dan River Campground in Stoneville, NC. This trip challenged us with an unlevel site and a crap load of mosquitoes, but we lived and had a great time. Our wise neighbors had invited us to join them for a weekend away, complete with dominos, salmon, and tubing down the Dan River. Before putting the stairs up and heading home, we enjoyed once last game of dominos and then set out for our home.
For Labor Day weekend, we headed to New Bern KOA in New Bern, NC. The entire drive was challenging. We were confronted with severe storms, tornado warnings, and an extreme amount lot of lightning. While sitting at the fire on our last night, we discussed where we would go next, if we didn’t head home. Could we eventually do that? Travel throughout the states with the girls? Hmmm… it was just a thought, an idea, a dream, but nonetheless, it was in the back of our minds.
For our last camping trip of 2017, we headed back to Deep Creek Tubing and Campground in Bryson City to celebrate our godson’s birthday. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad does a PEANUTS The Great Pumpkin Patch Express for Halloween, and it just so happens that Hendrix, the birthday boy, loves Snoopy! This was our favorite camping trip, thus far! We spent three nights with beautiful weather, our best friends, and great food. What was even better, was that we drove up like a boss, didn’t get lost, and survived breaking camp in the pouring rain. We winterized the camper in December, with high hopes of new adventures for the new year.
